How to Download and Install Windows 8 Release Preview

Windows 8 Release Preview is available for free. It is a pre-release version of Windows 8 with a free license until 15, January 2013 which means you can use it for free till the expiry date (see official Windows 8 videos below). On Expiry of the free license you might have to purchase a license to keep your Windows 8 running, but that's still a long time away. Till then you can just follow the steps below to download, install and Enjoy Windows 8.

System Requirements

• Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster
• RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
• Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
• Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver

You have two options to download and install Windows 8 based on your choice whether you want to
replace your current Operating System with Windows 8 (see Case I) or create a separate partition/fresh copy (see Case II).

Case I: You Want to Replace your current Operating System with Windows 8 Release Preview...

Download Link 

1. Visit the above link and click on 'Download Windows 8 Release Preview'.
2. This will download Windows 8 Release Preview Upgrade Assistant.
3. Run the Upgrade Assistant.
4. It will check apps and devices for compatibility with Windows 8.
5. On completion you can view the Compatibility details for Apps and Devices installed on your Computer. This list shows you which apps and devices will work and which of them won't work on Windows 8.
6. Close the compatibility details list and click on next.
7. Your Windows 8 Release Preview will start downloading.
8. After Downloading follow the steps to complete your upgrade.
9. Finish the installation.
10. Download Free Apps and Games from Store and have Fun.

Case II: You want to install Windows 8 on a Separate Partition(Dual Boot) or as a Fresh Copy or on another Computer or on Virtual Machine...

1. Visit the above link
2. Choose your preferred language and click on download link for either 32-bit or 64-bit based on your processor and also note down the product key as you will need it for installation.
3. Windows 8 Release Preview iso file will start Downloading.
4. After downloading the iso file you need to make a Bootable DVD or Pen Drive(minimum 4 GB).
5. USB/DVD Tool Download Link Visit this link to download the free USB/DVD tool.
6. Install the tool and open it.
7. Browse and select the Windows 8 Release Preview iso file and click on Next.
8. Then choose your preferred Media Type for making Bootable i.e., either USB Device or DVD and click on begin copying.
9. After completion your USB Device/DVD is now bootable.
10. Insert the device into your computer, then restart (OR start your Virtual Machine), go to the Boot screen and select proper boot options for your bootable windows 8 device, now your system will boot from the bootable device.
11. Follow the steps for completing you windows 8 Release Preview installation.
12. Finish the installation.
