Soon you could pay your Shopping Bills with your Android Mobile

Google seems to be getting seriously involved in popularising its mobile technology that allows shoppers to pay their retail shopping bills via mobile device.

Google, as part of its goal, is working on a potential partnership with electronic payments company, VeriFone Systems Inc.

VeriFone makes point-of-sales terminals that are used by various stores to process credit card payments.

As part of the potential tie-up with Google, VeriFone's terminals would be able to accept payments from mobile devices that are embedded with the technology called near-field communication (NFC).

NFC technology lets third-party developers create mobile payment applications, so people can use their phones as digital wallets, tapping them against a register while checking out of a store.

Google's latest Android mobile phone software Gingerbread, includes support for NFC technology while other mobile phone makers, including Blackberry makers RIM Ltd, have said they would build smartphones embedded with the technology.
